Creating Romance in Your Own Backyard

Anyone in a long lasting relationship knows that it can be difficult keeping the romance alive. After a while, many people simply stop actively seeking out ways to keep that puppy love alive and well. But the biggest problem is a misconception that romance is only created when grand gestures are undertaken. This simply isn’t the case. Even the smallest things can be considered extremely romantic if those small gestures are done with the right intent.

With that in mind, a sweepingly romantic gesture can be something as simple as installing a two person hammock. If this was just placed in the backyard, it wouldn’t be a testament to your romantic sentiments. But if it was installed so that you and your wife would have a place to spend a few minutes together every day, then even a hammock could be an extremely romantic gesture.

Adding Beauty to Your Personal SpaceIf you’re artistically minded, it’s very likely that you enjoy expressing that artistic flare and creativity through the decorating of your house and outdoor areas. You might even establish a small room in your home for all your artistic projects. Whether you’re a jeweler, a sculptor, or a painter, you should decorate your studio with the décor and products that inspire you.

One of the great ways to spruce up your studio (or even your backyard patio) is with outdoor wall plaques. These come in a variety of materials, sizes, and designs, so you’re sure to find something that inspires or otherwise delights you. And don’t forget that these can be enjoyed even if you’re not an artist yourself. After all, everyone can appreciate beauty, and that’s exactly what’s added to your home or outdoor living area with these plaques!

Using Your Patio in the Day and Night

Many gardens and backyards are lovely spaces. Many are filled with flowers, patios, and comfortable furniture. This makes them the ideal place to sit and spend a nice summer afternoon. But their use shouldn’t be limited to just the daytime. These patios make absolutely lovely places to spend those cool summer nights as well. But many people aren’t able to take advantage of that due to poor lighting.

After all, if you can’t see where you’re sitting or what you’re doing, nobody is going to spend any amount of time enjoying that outdoor area. If you want to take full advantage of that space, however, all you need to do is put up a garden lantern or two. These are often beautiful decorations in their own right, and they will also illuminate the area just enough. While some lights flood an area with light, garden lanterns are sure to simply add a bit of ambiance and convenience.

Victorian Styling in a Modern Home

Many people are aware of the Victorian era, but not as many people realize that it’s also specifically a style of decorative arts. This Victorian style emerged, not surprisingly, during that well known Victorian age. The style itself is marked most prominently by multicultural influences. Specifically, this means Victorian pieces are noted for both Asian and Middle Eastern styling. The aesthetic can be applied to everything from products of interior decorating to large scale pieces of furniture.

Near the end of this movement, other well known styles began to emerge such as the Anglo-Japanese style as well as Art Nouveau. Products from this era are generally considered very ornamental and orderly. As would be expected, it was usually considered very “proper,” especially with houses that were neatly divided between the private and the public areas. If people today want to infuse their home with a little bit of this aesthetic, they can look into everything from a Victorian bird feeder to antique style furniture.

Spotting the Illusive Hummingbird

There’s nothing quite as beautiful as the very small and very quick hummingbird. With such rapidly beating wings and quick movements, it’s always a special treat to see the hummingbird actually land or at least stay still enough to enjoy some of their vibrant coloring. If you live in an area with a high density of hummingbirds, invest in a decorative hummingbird feeder, and you’re sure to attract some of these beautiful birds to your own backyard.

Just keep in mind that you should always fill these hummingbird feeders with a simple combination of sugar and water. This carbohydrate laden drink gives them the energy they need to keep flitting around with such rapidity. Also, if you really want to attract them in a hurry, add a few drops of red food coloring to the mixture. Hummingbirds can spot red from very far away, and you’re likely to have a whole gang of birds on your hands with this potent mixture.

Cleaning Tips for Healthy Birds

Anyone that puts a birdfeeder in the backyard is most likely a bird watcher or a general animal lover. These bird feeders, therefore, are most likely in place to help the birds have a safe and serene place to get a few tasty morsels or a simple drink of water. And because these bird feeders are in place to help the birds, owners have to make sure that they’re properly cared for. Bird feeders that aren’t properly maintained can quickly become covered in scum, moss, or other elements that can be detrimental to a bird’s health.

But by the same token, owners should be careful when cleaning any decorative bird feeder. If you use harsh chemicals or soaps to clean the feeder, the water and food can become hazardous for the birds. Make sure to use plain water when cleaning, or if absolutely necessary, use biodegradable, non toxin soap. Follow those few simple tips, and you’re sure to have a flock of healthy, happy birds in your garden each passing season.

I love hosting parties. My favorite thing is to create a theme and ask all the guests to dress up and bring food associated with that theme. This year my theme is the Casablanca (you know, like the movie.) All my guests will be bringing Moroccan food and I am so excited. Because it is summer, I am planning on hosting the party in my back yard.I plan to lay out beautifully patterned rugs and jewel-toned pillows. Finally, I plan to hand Moroccan lanterns from the trees. I think it will be a lovely atmosphere and a party to remember.

countrybirdfeeder-yourgardendecor.jpgThere are so many reasons why I wanted to move my family out of the city. The noise was deafening, we could hardly eat dinner without having to put earplugs in the traffic outside was so loud. The pollution was horrible. The air got to be so toxic that I almost wanted to wear a gas mask whenever I left my house. The kids had no room to play, unless you call an empty lot covered in garbage a playground.

So we finally did it, we moved out to the country and got the farmhouse we always wanted. I went crazy with the decorating and decided to go with a country theme. I even bought a country bird feeder to place in the back yard so I could spend my summer mornings watching the birds.

What will make your garden a living and breathing space?  Living things, of course.  Install a backyard bird feeder and you will surely attract live and breathing friends.  Your feathered friends will wake you up in the morning with joyful tweets. They will entertain you the whole day with their fluttering antics.  You will know that its time for bed when the twittering and chirping stops.

It is easy to build a bird feeder. Almost anything can be turned into a bird feeder. A simple open wooden box set up in an open space will serve your purpose. Knowing a little about bird habits will be a big advantage. Know where to hang your bird feeder so that it is easily accessible to your bird guests and make sure your ‘little one’ can reach it and help in refilling the feeder.

outdoorlantern-yourgardendecor.jpgThere are times when you just want to sit in your garden after dinner. The breeze is cool but the dark can be a little frightening.  Especially when the kids want to sit with you.  It’s very easy for them to imagine shadows and figures lurking behind the bushes and trees. An outdoor lantern will help ease their anxiety.

You can buy a garden lantern from any garden shop.  If you are thinking green, a solar light will be just for you. But have you ever thought of making one?  A simple tin can punched with holes and set with a bulb will not only brighten your space.  Depending on the shape of the holes punched on its sides, it will give out different light rays that will delight your kids. It will be a nice décor in the daytime, too.
